156: How to Disciple Your Family

The People Closest // S12E06

Whether it be children, or parents, or a spouse, whatever members of your family you interact with, discipleship needs to be there also. We can get so caught up focusing on the world outside our homes, that we forget those already inside that are needing just as much nourishment as those outside. In today’s episode we discus the need to raise your children up in the Lord, for a husband to lead his spouse in the Lord, and how we ought to help them into the image of Christ, not the image of ourselves.

Verses from today’s episode:

Ephesians 5:1-3, Mark 12:33, 1 John 4:8, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, 1 Peter 1:3, Ephesians 5:24-26, 1 Peter 5:3, Proverbs 29:15, Proverbs 31, 1 Peter 4:8

Quotes from How to Disciple Your Family:

“I think that in the home, the best part of discipleship is this: just walk the walk.”

Shea Watson, The Pantry Podcast, How to Disciple Your Family

“That’s the way religion works, you do it because you’re told to not because you want to,… whereas with a relationship, you still might not enjoy it, God might be asking you to do something really hard, not enjoyable or put you in a situation that is going to cause you pain, however you trust Him and are leaning on Him the entire time, not just because He said so and you fear getting struck by lightning or something.”
